Ladybower Charity Weekend raises £2000!
Ladybower charity weekend raises £2000 for Accessible Derbyshire
In October Ladybower fisheries held a charity open weekend for Accessible Derbyshire. The aim of the weekend was to raise funds to purchase a 'Wheelyboat': a special fishing boat that wheelchair-using anglers can wheel straight onto to enjoy a few hours fishing on the lake.
The driving force for purchasing a wheelyboat on Ladybower was Ray: an old friend of Ladybower fisheries who sadly passed away this year. His family are really keen to create a lasting legacy and are actively fund raising to support the project.
The activites over the weekend included:
Chainsaw carving - Andrew Frost
Fly tying demo - Steve Newsome
Walking stick Carving - David James
Fly fishing demonstration
Fishing for Heroes
Fly Fishing, have a go - Paul and Sue Sissons
Cooking and smoking trout dishes - live demonstrations - John Blewitt
Supporting the fishing competition and also demonstrating their fly fishing rods and tackle were Orvis of Bakewell.
Raffle and Tombola
We are delighted to say that not only was the weekend hugely enjoyable but it also raised a staggering £2000! Added to the £2000 already donated to the fund by Sam Hindley through the Derbyshire Volunteers this gives us an incredible £4000. Suzanne from Lloyds who supported the weekend is also able to contribute a further £500 through matched funding from her employer Lloyds Banks and The Wheelyboat Trust has pledged to contribute half the total cost of the boat too! All in all we are a whisker (or should that be an 'oar'?) away from reaching our target!
Our thanks go to Geoff and the team from Ladybower fisheries for their generosity and for hosting and organising the event as well as to Sam Hindley and the Derbyshire Volunteers, Suzanne and Lloyds Bank, all the wonderful people who gave their time to hold events over the weekend and to the many generous visitors who enjoyed the weekend with us.
Thanks to all of you the Wheelyboat is even closer to its maiden voyage!
