Loo of the Year Awards supports Accessible Derbyshire!

16th Dec 2014

Loo of The Year

December each year sees the prestigious 'Loo of the Year' awards in Solihull.

This glittering event, run by the British Toilet Association is held to promote excellence in toilet provision across the country and rewards facilities which meet stringent criteria and the staff as well as the staff who run them.

Joining them this year were Gillian Scotford and Jane Carver, Co-Founders of Accessible Derbyshire.

Invited by 'Closomat' who specialise in disability wash-rooms, the pair were guest speakers at the event and told the hundreds of attendees about the importance of Changing Places toilets and the increasingly successful campaign for these facilities in Derbyshire which now boasts 23 in total.

Changing Places are designed for the 250,000 people in the country whose needs are not met by standard accessible toilets and who need to be changed when they are out. They are special because they have a height-adjustable changing bench, a ceiling hoist and tracking along with the usual facilities you would expect in a toilet.

Exhibitors 'Evolve' were so impressed with the pair's presentation and the work of Accessible Derbyshire that they decided to donate over £300 to the charity.

Jane, who has campaigned for Changing Places since 2003 explained that
“ We were delighted to be asked to speak at the event and let people know just how critical Changing Places are to disabled people and their families”

Gillian added that “It was such a bonus to receive this donation and we would sincerely like to thank everyone at 'Evolve' for their generosity.”
