New Changing Places facility for McArthur Glen

With the holiday season approaching many of us will be thinking about what to do over the long Summer break. People who need changing when they are out, their families, friends and carers,  have the added difficulty of being limited by the provision of a suitable place to change.

We are lucky in Derbyshire, having 23 Changing Places facilities and Spaces to Change in the county - all of which are listed on the Changing Places section of our website. And the news gets even better because the McArthur Glen East Midlands Designer Outlet has just opened a new Changing Places toilet at their venue at South Normanton, bringing the total to 24!!!

Already a popular venue for day trips. this makes the appeal of McArthur Glen even greater for those of us who rely on these important facilities. Representatives of McArthur Glen attended a free training session on Changing Places run last year in Chesterfield by The Accessible Training Company (the training arm of our charity) and it is as a result of this that the venue commissioned their new facility.

So why not take the family and make a day of it at McArthur Glen this Summer? The Changing Places toilet has a height-adjustable, adult-sized changing bench plus a ceiling hoist and tracking as well as a standard toilet, all of which make changing a doddle! To use the facility all you need to bring is your own sling if you need to use the hoist.

This coming Tuesday, 19th July marks the 10th Anniversary of Mencap's Changing Places campaign and is also the first ever National Changing Places Awareness Day so the news about this fantastic, new Changing Places toilet could not have come at a better time.

We would like to send a huge, personal, heartfelt 'THANK YOU' to the decision-makers at McArthur Glen who have made this facility possible - on behalf of ourselves, our families and the many, many other visitors who will benefit from these much-needed facilities.
