A Day Out at Elvaston Castle

Situated in Elvaston near Derby, Elvaston Castle is a historic stately home. This gothic revival castle and surrounding parkland is owned by Derbyshire County Council and covers 200 acres of parkland, woodland and formal, grade II listed grounds and  gardens which were designed by William Barron in the 1800’s and which have a romantic feel with lots of hidden areas to discover.

The castle is not open to the public but there is plenty to do here such as picnicking , birdwatching and photography as well as exploring the nature reserve, the woodland paths and the lovely walk around the lake. Early Summer is a particularly nice time to visit, when the perennial border is truly spectacular.

Watch out for the special events and activities held here throughout the year.

There is also a brand new Changing Places toilet facility here as well as a large car parking area making Elvaston an ideal day out when the weather is fine.
