A Day Out at Shipley Country Park
Shipley Country Park is situated close to Derby and Nottinghamshire and comprises 700 acres of varied and attractive landscape which has been awarded the Green Flag Award for its greenscape provision.
In 2011 it also achieved the Country Park Accreditation from Natural England for its facilities and services.
There is a Visitor Centre, a well-stocked gift shop a coffee shop serving meals and light snacks, a wildlife garden and an exhibition and display area. The latter provides information on the history of this former colliery site on which an ancient manor also once stood, as mentioned in the Domesday book.
The Country Park is rich in wildlife and has attractive woodland, meadows and lakes with miles of quiet paths to explore including the Nutbrook Trail: a 10 mile route which passes through the park. There is a children’s play area and a programme of special events throughout the year too
Tramper vehicles and wheelchairs are available to hire and there is also a Changing Places toilet facility.
While you are in the area why not pay a visit to Mapperley reservoir? It is just a mile away and has its own car park with disabled parking.
With so much on offer a visit to Shipley really is a great day out for the whole family!
