A Day Out In Hartington & Parsley Hay

A typically English village at the northern end of Dovedale, Hartington is a beautiful village with its stone cottages and impressive houses around the village square, the focal point  of which is the much photographed duck pond.

Whether you choose to visit the Charles Cotton Hotel for lunch, browse round the famous cheese shop or simply sit with an ice cream you’re sure to have a fabulous day out.

A short drive away, just off the A515, is the Parsley Hay Cycle Centre.  A refreshments kiosk, toilets, visitor centre and cycle hire are all available here.  Parsley Hay was once a railway station and is now at the junction of the Tissington and High Peak Trail. This is the perfect place to enjoy a walk with easy access for all in either direction or you can choose to cycle down either of the trails, giving 30 miles of traffic free cycling!

A variety of cycles are available to hire for all abilities at the centre.

Hoe Grange Holidays, (01629 540262) have a fantastic Boma 7 all-terrain cycle for hire which they will deliver to any of the trails or to Carsington Water for a ½ or full day fee.  Although it comes at a cost this truly is an incredible piece of equipment that has actually climbed mount Snowdon (!) and will allow you to enjoy the freedom of the great outdoors to the full.  It has a battery charge that gives approximately 14-16 miles of cycling.
