A Day Out In Matlock & Matlock Bath

Bursting with life, this is a great place to visit.

For the energetic a visit to Lea Green Outdoor Activity Centre set in 25 acres of parkland 4 miles away is exhilarating.

Half or full days of activities are available but must be pre-booked as instructors are required. Since this comes at a cost it is much more cost-effective if you book as a group.

There is a great choice of outdoor pursuits available: high rope swings, rock climbing wall, abseiling, archery, cycling etc. (changing place facility available).

A new sensory, accessible playground with sound tubes and swing etc has just been completed (this is free of charge but Lea Green needs to be contacted to make a booking) .

There is also a Changing Places facility available on-site.

For the less energetic a visit to Cromford Mill with a stroll along the canal and refreshments at the café are nice. Here too there is a Changing Places toilet.  Shopping at the Masson Mill Shopping Centre is close by as is the buzz of Matlock Bath.  Matlock Bath is a constant attraction throughout the seasons for tourists and it is great to take the riverside stroll combined with a lovely meal or drink at the cosy Fishpond Inn.  The well known cable cars are always visible taking people from town up to the Heights of Abraham.

The cable cars can access wheelchairs and once up at the attraction the views are incredible with the restaurant, terrace and video tours available of the caves (although the caves themselves are not wheelchair-accessible).  The difficulty here is that the path leading to the cable car station from the Matlock Bath car park is extremely steep and therefore we would only recommend this if someone can walk this short distance , is a child with a lightweight wheelchair, is someone who has a small, powered chair or has a very stong assistant!  It is, without a doubt, a challenging push to the cable-car station but the thrill of being in the cable cars hovering in the air looking down at the picturesque town below is well worth it!
