Hollins Bank nr Stannage
Map ref: SK 237837
This popular car park below Stanage Edge has been enlarged and resurfaced in a mixture of tarmac and stone with a top dressing of basalt chippings, to accommodate visitors away from the road. Pay and display, free to blue badge holders.
There are picnic tables provided (which can accommodate wheelchair users) for those who wish to sit and enjoy the moorland scenery.
To reach the toilets 200m away it is safer to go up the basalt surfaced car park with a maximum gradient of 1:18 and across the road, rather than along the narrow tarmac road with no footway. The ladies toilet is reached through a narrow squeeze stile at the entrance to the building (erected to keep sheep out); the gents has a 160mm step up. There is level entry to a toilet for disabled people for which a RADAR key is required.
The drive to get to Hollin Bank car park is a treat in itself with some truly dramatic scenery. You can sit and watch hustle and bustle of the climbesr on Stannage Edge as you enjoy your picnic.
