Accessible Derbyshire joined a packed audience at the Winding  Wheel today for an event  to 'Celebrate Chesterfield' hosted by 'Destination Chesterfield'.

Destintation Chesterfield was established in 2011 and was funded through support from the European Regional Development Fund, Local Businesses and Chesterfield Borough Council.

The organisation is responsible for developing a co-ordinated approach to promoting the town. Its aim is to work with residents and business to raise Chesterfield's profile by harnessing its location, potential and confidence to establish Chesterfield's role as a contemporary destination, nestled on the border of the world famous Peak District and adjacent to Sheffield.

Through a combination of presentations and case-studies delivered by local business and community leaders, participants heard of the massive investment currently being made in the town through developments such as the Waterside Development, Peak Resort and Markham Vale.

Jane Carver from Accessible Derbyshire commented that:

"It was our first ever time at a Destination Chesterfield event and we were extremely impressed with the opportunities it gave for us to keep up to date with current and future developments in the town as well as to network with businesses from across the area.

It is important for us to keep up to date with what is happening to enable us to influence the accessibility agenda from the planning stage onwards. That way we can help to ensure that every destination in the town is able to offer a warm welcome to all visitors."
